In this picture

A unicorn stands facing left with four outlined hooves beneath its rounded body. Its striped horn points upward, and broad curved locks run down the neck and through the lifted tail. The smiling face has one visible dark eye. No scenery surrounds the figure, so the mane, tail and small hoof bands provide the main color changes.

A story to read while you color

A Ribbon for the Winding Path

The unicorn stands sideways with four hooves beneath its body. A pointed horn rises above its forehead. Long sections of mane curve down the neck, and its tail makes another sweeping wave behind. There are no wings on this unicorn.

Tonight, perhaps the unicorn dreams of a path with the same curls as its mane. It wants to bring a ribbon to the end of that path. At the first deep bend, the ribbon slips across its eyes. The unicorn stops rather than guessing which way to turn.

In this dream, it loops the ribbon loosely around its horn, leaving both eyes clear. Now the winding route is easy to follow. At the last curl, it finds a plain gate and ties the ribbon there. The little bow marks the way back through all those bends.

Is this the page for you?

easy difficulty
The side view leaves a large uninterrupted body and clearly separated legs; only the horn bands and hoof edges require short strokes.
Skills to try
  • Following long hair sections: The mane and tail contain curved ribbons that can each take one continuous color.
Suggested age: About 5–7 years, with help on the smallest shapes
The broad flank gives room for early coloring practice, while an adult can help identify where the hair ribbons end. This is a suggestion; comfort with the shapes matters more than age.

Cream coat, lavender hair

Keep the quiet body separate from the long hair ribbons.

  • Cream

Fill the large neck, body and legs with a light cream layer.

  • Lavender

Color alternating locks in the mane and lifted tail.

  • Gold

Pick out the horn bands and narrow hoof cuffs.

Cool blue unicorn

A pale coat lets the pink hair tips stand out.

  • Blue

Use a light blue across the open flank and neck.

  • Rose

Add pink to the mane sections and curled tail end.

  • Gray

Shade the hooves and the two legs farther from the viewer.

Ideas

Working with this drawing

  1. 1Start the mane at its broad upper curves and shorten your strokes as each lock narrows to a tip.
  2. 2Use a slightly darker shade on the rear legs so their outlines stay distinct from the nearer pair.

Activity

Try this

Make a mane-and-tail ribbon

Pick a color sequence for the unicorn’s wavy mane, then repeat that sequence in its flowing tail. Give the striped horn a contrasting color and add a small matching emblem in the blank space.

About this page

How this page was made

Published on this site on November 1, 2026.

  • The line art was made with AI image tools, then reviewed one picture at a time for clean, closed outlines before its A4 and US Letter PDFs were built.
  • The notes on this page were written after looking at this drawing and checked against it a second time.
  • The colored example comes from this site’s AI colorizer, using the same line art; it is a suggestion, not a customer’s work.
  • The area counts above are measured from the clean line art by a script, not estimated by eye.
